Product Details

Foam flower for sale here is Tiarella cordifolia, a native woodland perennial that sends up frothy spikes of white to pale pink flowers above a mat of heart-shaped leaves. We ship it bare-root in packs of 25, 50, 100 and 500, for shade gardens, woodland borders, ground cover and wholesale buyers.

Foam Flower Size, Zones and Sun

Foam flower is a low plant, 5 to 12 inches tall, spreading a foot or more across. Hardy in zones 3 to 8. Dappled sun to deep shade suits it, and it wants moist, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter.

Foam Flower Blooms and Leaves

From April into June, slim spikes of tiny white to pink flowers rise above the leaves and look like puffs of foam. The leaves are lobed and heart-shaped, and some plants carry darker markings along the veins. The two together keep a bed interesting for months.

Foam Flower and Wildlife

Bees, butterflies and other pollinators come to the blooms, and songbirds visit the planting. It's moderately deer resistant, so it holds up where browsing is a problem.

Where to Plant Foam Flower

It does well under trees, along shaded paths, at the front of a woodland border and in rock gardens kept moist. Plant 12 inches apart for a quick cover. For plants that share its taste for shade, see our guide to fern companion plants.

Planting Foam Flower Bare-root

Soak the roots for an hour, then plant with the crown level with the soil. Spread the roots, firm the soil and water well. Leaf mulch keeps the roots cool, and regular water through the first summer helps it settle. Our foam flower planting guide has more tips.

Buying Foam Flower in Bulk

At 12 inches apart each plant takes a square foot, so a pack of 25 covers about 25 square feet, 100 plants cover around 100 and 500 plants cover about 500. Packs of 25, 50, 100 and 500 suit a shaded path edge or a whole woodland slope.

Good to Know About Foam Flower

Foam flower spreads by slender runners, so a few plants become a colony in a few seasons. Hot, dry sites cause it to struggle, so give it shade and moisture. Cutting back tired flower stalks after bloom keeps the planting neat.

Foam Flower for Woodland Gardens

A mass planting makes a soft green floor in spring, with a haze of white above it. It mixes well with ferns, hostas and wild ginger.
