A Beginner Garden

Some helpful gardening tips will steer you in the right direction for those considering starting a new garden or having never gardened before. If you do not know where to begin when it comes to gardening, then begin with the basic foundation of any gardening venture, the soil. The soil should contain the proper balance of nutrients such as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorous. These will be your basic building blocks when starting a garden. Supportive nutrients like calcium, copper, and magnesium are also great ingredients to use when gardening.

Stop by your local nursery center to get an idea of what you want to grow. Numerous seed packages are available in both organic and inorganic forms. You can also buy plants in bulk or online to get a good start on gardening. A fundamental rule for gardening is to have multiple plants around your garden and not just grow one or two plants. Start an entire bed of flowers or vegetable plants instead of placing stock in a single plant. With more plants, there is a higher chance for growth and success. Seeds and starter plants are not expensive, and while at the store, be sure to pick up whatever soil or fertilizers you need. Fertilizer can be used once a year, usually in the fall before spring arrives. Compost contains rich plant nutrients that will feed soil health and will allow plants to grow. You can make your compost using leftover plant materials and leaves, but ensure these plants are healthy before adding them to any compost pile. If you do not want to make compost now, there are unique bags of compost and fertilizer you can buy from the store.

Every plant is different when adding the right amount of materials at a particular time, so check with your local nursery or do the necessary research to see how often you should mulch, fertilize and compost your garden. These will be the most critical steps as your plant grows, and it is easy to learn. Also, familiarize yourself with the necessary watering times and how much shade and sunlight your plant will need. All plants need sunlight, but many require a good balance of sun and shade to grow properly. Once you have all of these problems figured out, planting is a fun and rewarding process.
